Today I had intended to blog about the lovely award I've received from Mia but I'm going to put that on hold until either tomorrow or Sunday .

The reason I've changed my mind is because I want to tell you about the blood tests I had taken a few days ago.
For months now I've been suffering from aches and pains especially in my hips and knees , I was even referred to a specialist but they couldn't find anything wrong. Now you know yourself when something is not quite right but if you're like me once you've been to the doctors about something and they say you're fine even if the problem continues you just plod on with it.
Anyhow , when I got home from work today there was a letter waiting for me with the results of one of the tests. I wasn't expecting anything for a couple of weeks never mind a couple of days .

I was actually quite happy when I saw that I had been diagnosed with something , an underactive thyroid to be precise. Finally something I can do something about and get things back on track. Hub sent me a list of symptoms and I was surprised at how many I could tick off .
  • Feeling tired and sleeping a lot -- checkFeeling the cold easily -- checkDry and/or pale skin -- checkCoarse thinning hair and brittle nailsSore muscles, slow movements and weakness -- checkA hoarse or croaky voiceA change in facial expressionDepressionProblems with memory and concentration -- checkWeight gain -- checkConstipationFertility problemsHeavy , irregular or prolonged menstrual periods -- checkSlow heart rate
Quite a list isn't it really. So next week I'm back off to the doctors and I'm thinking I'll probably be given a course of tablets to correct it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Sorry to hear you haven't been well - but a diagnosis is always better than not knowing / something undiagnosed. As you say, they'll hopefully be able to treat you / get you feeling much better. Good luck :)

I'm glad that you got some answers.... at least you can start to deal with why you've been feeling not so well...

I am so sorry, Lisa, that you've been feeling unwell. And that's some list, as you said, but now your doctor can treat you properly. I wish you'll be feeling better really soon!

Have a peaceful weekend!

Yours,
Mia

Oh no! Hope you're ok. At least they have a diagnosis. The not knowing is the worst as you know when things aren't right. Let's hope that 2011 is the start of a new you, all fixed and better :) x

Hi Lisa. My mum has an underactive thyroid and it took years for her to have her symptoms properly diagnosed. She suffered with tiredness, aches and pains and low level depression for a long time before eventually changing doctor and finally getting a diagnosis. Once she had the right medication things improved dramatically very quickly. I am glad you were able to get answers quickly!

Hi Lisa, I'm sorry you are feeling so unwell but pleased you've finally got a reason, I'm completely with you on the just living with it if the Doc say's your fine and it shouldn't really be like that, should it? I also had a couple of friends diagnosed with the same thing last year and they improved quickly on medication so I hope this is the case for you. Have a lovely weekend. Bethx

Bummer. I'm like you - not glad something is wrong but at least now you can do something about it. I bet you feel like a new woman once they get your meds straight. I hope that is sooner rather than later!

Yes, it's so hard to persist if you're told you are okay. So glad you now know what it is now and really hope you feel a lot better soon. Poor you to have been feeling so unwell. Take care of yourself, Juliex
