26th October 2010

Not so long ago a friend of mine asked if I would knit her baby son a bunny for Christmas . I wanted to make something a bit different from my normal bunnies and knew the exact pattern I wanted to use.
Now I've never used this pattern before and for once I actually went out and bought the recommended yarn ,which is something I never do. It was also advised that I use 4mm needles , nah way to big, so I dropped a size .

As I was making this bunny something just didn't feel right and after I made the head I realised that the yarn was just way too dark, you can't even see his facial features and also the knitting was far too ' holey'.
The pattern itself is okay but it's not a favourite . I will probably make this bunny again but with a different yarn and I'll definately drop another needle size.

He's now been christened Benny and is sitting getting told a story off Gabe .
As for the bunny for my friend , surprisingly enough I do have more bunny patterns !!

Lucky Gabe! I hope you aren't too disppointed - I get really annoyed when things don't turn out as expected. Juliex

Ooh I've just bought that pattern & yarn (different colour though) after seeing it at Ally Pally, would you recommend a 3.5 needle size?
He still looks nice though, good colours for a boy.

I do agree, his face is a little too dark to show off his features, but he's still pretty cute :)

Hs is a lovely bunny, a real floppy one and probably a good colour for a boy/ My James had a very pale blue one which had this smell about which I will always recognise, but I was forever washing it.

Me again, it is a kitchenaid mixer! Not cheap, but I use it all the time, I’ve had years. x

He is lovely Lisa. Could you embroider his features with a light coloured embroidery thread maybe? I love the fact that he is dark and mysterious and not the usual pastel baby colours available.

Well I think Benny looks ace.

I agree-he's lovely. Could you do his features in grey to make them stand out? It's a shame toy stuffing is white- a dark version would be good as well.

I still think he's lovely, though the suggestion to use grey for his features is a good one.
I'm in the middle of crocheting a scarf and it's in really dark yarn which I've decided I don't really like. I suppose sometimes you have to try something before you know whether or not it works, unfortunately!

Oh now I love him in that colour! I'm about to start a teddy myself (!!!) and I'm going to go for greys and neutrals.
