27th July 2010

For the past two years during the Summer Holidays we have joined the Summer Reading Challenge at our local library. The challenge this year is themed " Space Hop " and it's quite simple really, just read 6 books during the holiday, easy peasy.

I might have mentioned before but Milo absolutely adores reading . His teachers say his reading level is way above average and he can read just about anything you put in front of him. On a morning he knows he's not allowed out of bed before 7am so if he wakes up he lies in bed and reads . He also gets a story every night before bed , something we've always done since he was a tot.

Gabe also has stories every night and if you read him a story one night he can say it back to you just about word for word the next night. He doesn't read it ( although he does know a few letters) but memorises it - sometimes he astounds me with what he comes out with.

I am so pleased that both the boys show an interest in books as both me and hub love to read .

So why not pop along to your local library and join , you get stickers :-)

We've all signed up! Although I think Dot could probably lend half her books to our local library to boost their numbers! Lucy xxx

My son used to do the library reading challenge when he was younger. I think it is a great way to motivate the children to read. They should do an adult version!!!

I used to do this with William but not for the last couple of years (I think he considers himself too old for that kind of thing now!) Joe & I went to the library yesterday and picked up lots of books but he wasn't interested in signing up so we didn't bother. He loves books anyway so doesn't need any extra motivation to read!
