7th March 2010

A few weeks ago I was reading Davids Blog when he mentioned that he had been to a place called Allen Banks - now David doesn't live a million miles from me so I checked out Allen Banks on the map , saw it was only an hours drive away and earmarked it for a day out. Today was the day....

We set off bright and early with all our woollies and wellies packed into the car for although the sun was shining it was still quite chilly. When we arrived there was a choice of three walks - we chose the orange one and set off up a very steep bank.

Not far along the path was a summer house

with the most amazing views, can you see the river right down below?

The drop on one side of us was quite steep so we had to keep an eye on the boys .

The photo below is looking back up the path we climbed down

to reach the river - quite a climb it was too.

The roots on this tree were amazing.

Walking back along the river we came to this bridge - even thinking about it now I feel like I'm bouncing up and down !!

I just loved the ferns growing out of the moss on the trees.

By the time we got back to the car park we had worked up quite an appetite , for the first picnic of the year.

These lambs were just across the road and I couldn't resist snapping them - so cute .

So I'd just like to say a big thank you to David as without his writing about this gorgeous place I would never have even known it was there -- we'll definately be back , after all - there are two more walks to do ....

Love the lambs (not seen any here yet), the picnic (still to have our first one of the year!) and the wobbly bridge, think I'd be wobbling after crossing that too!

What a lovely day out. It must have been great to get out into the fresh air after all the snow that you have had. I so miss the spring lambs. I used to love to go out and see them jumping about in the field.

Oh Wow! It's just gorgeous! And there's nothing like a picnic outside after a beautiful walk!

Your walk looks so beautiful. I was wondering which part of the country you are from and looking at the comments I guess its Northumberland. Its not somewhere I know very well but I have always imagined it to be attractive and quite unspoilt. It certainly looks like that where you walked.

I'm hoping for our first picnic this coming Sunday. But perhaps that much advance planning may be asking for trouble weather-wise?!

I love Allen Banks, but we have to go back the same way as my mother refuses to cross that bridge.

You really live near some nice places Lisa. I bet the boys love going out on adventures with you and their Dad. Lucky having a picnic too! x

I'm so glad you've discovered Allen Banks! I grew up round the corner from it, and although I live in the city now (boo!) it still somehow draws me back whenever I'm in the area. Cat
