5th December 2010

So not having a good weekend ........ even though I have a nice shiny new laptop the internet connection is pants , it could be down to the weather I just don't know . I can,t upload pictures here , Facebook , Etsy , anywhere . I can't send e-mails with attachments which means I can't send patterns to customers . I can read blogs -- just , it takes about 15 minutes to load one and even then I can't see the pictures .
GRRRRRRR.......................

On the plus side we haven't had any snow for two days , we did manage to get to a Supermarket for food shopping and we did go sledging yesterday but I can't show you any pictures .

Double GRRRRRRRR................

30th November 2010

So on Friday gone it started to snow .... and it snowed ..... and it snowed ..... and it snowed .

We've had temperatures of - 10c , we've had thundersnow which was both amazing and scary at the same time . I don't think I've ever heard a noise or seen lightning like that before.

The boys have been off school for two days - snow days, but are going back tomorrow - apparantly ! We are waiting for further notification on that one.

The car hasn't moved and we've had to help random people who have parked in our street and then got stuck.

None of the local shops have bread or milk , we've had no post and no binmen ( refuse collections ).

So I though it was as good a time as any to defrost the freezer.

On a computer note hub took my laptop apart and gave it a good clean - fingers crossed it holds out a bit longer.

23rd November 2010

Just a quickie to let you know I'm still here and my apologies for not dropping by your Blogs.

My laptop keeps overheating and switching itself off so all the posts I've tried to do just keep disappearing which is a complete and utter pain in the ass.

I'll be back soon though - fingers crossed ...

1st November 2010

Jeez , I can't believe it's November already, can you ? I don't know about you but today certainly doesn't seem like November . It's been relativly warm and sunny not what you would normally associate with what I class as a winter month . Are we in winter now or is it still classed as Autumn? Then again there are still lots of green leaves on the trees and nowhere near as much leaf colour as there has been in previous years or is that just me also?

The half term holidays flew by with quite a few walks lots of playing and also quite a lot of craftiness by yours truly but I'll save that for another post. These photos were taken along the banks of the river Wear not far from my parents house .
On the afternoon we went on this walk the tide was very low and you can see that all the sludge and things that are normally under the water were all exposed . Lots of tyres and seaweed along with branches and the odd old boat.

This part of the river used to be a hive of activity , there was a pottery and a paper works and many many moons ago there was also shipyard . All that has gone now , just a few ruins here and there and a boathouse where people store jet skis . I have to admit I wouldn't particularly like to get a mouthful of this water as it isn't the cleanest!!

So now we are getting back into routine with a Halloween disco to look forward to tomorrow night and then the build up to the Christmas holidays -- it's only six weeks until they break up again .............

26th October 2010

Not so long ago a friend of mine asked if I would knit her baby son a bunny for Christmas . I wanted to make something a bit different from my normal bunnies and knew the exact pattern I wanted to use.
Now I've never used this pattern before and for once I actually went out and bought the recommended yarn ,which is something I never do. It was also advised that I use 4mm needles , nah way to big, so I dropped a size .

As I was making this bunny something just didn't feel right and after I made the head I realised that the yarn was just way too dark, you can't even see his facial features and also the knitting was far too ' holey'.
The pattern itself is okay but it's not a favourite . I will probably make this bunny again but with a different yarn and I'll definately drop another needle size.

He's now been christened Benny and is sitting getting told a story off Gabe .
As for the bunny for my friend , surprisingly enough I do have more bunny patterns !!
