27th June 2010

What a glorious day, after the huge thunder storm last night it's nice to see the sun out again.

Most of yesterday was spent doing the dreaded grocery shopping and then Hub and the boys sat glued to a screen, first it was the new Harry Potter lego game on PS3 and then the football.

Now don't get me wrong I do like the football and I'm not averse to them playing games for a short while but sometimes it just gets ridiculous.

This morning it was my turn for a lie in but I was still up by 8.30am. When I came downstairs the boys were not surprisingly sat on the couch with the PS3 on. When I told them we were going out Gabe was fine but Milo looked like he'd been slapped in the face with a wet fish !!

Hub decided he wasn't coming so it was just me and the boys ..... ( as I write this Hub is still playing on the PS3 and it's 2.30pm ).

When I was younger I spent most of my time outdoors, it might have been different if we'd had console games I suppose but most of my best memories are of places I went with my parents , camps or dens that I made with friends in someones garden or just playing on a bike.

I don't want to sound like a moaning minnie and I know as a parent it's me that has control of what they do but it's hard when Milo comes home from school and talks about what his friends do or when Hubs idea of relaxing is playing console games .

It did make me smile when I was driving home with two just about naked boys in the back and Milo said that he'd had a great time and was glad that he'd came .. and then Gabe asked if we could come again tomorrow - maybe we'll just do that ..

I feel like I'm constantly telling my youngest two to turn off the telly and go outside and play! But I suppose it's not really fair as they see me on the computer so much! ;o) Lucy x

P.S Looks like you had fun at the beach!

good job mum! I know what you mean about the tv vs getting outdoors ... what a fun and exciting place you went to!

Oh, I so feel your pain! My hubby hates being outdoors and I LOVE it -- I had to work really hard to get my boys outside, and without the fabulous beach like you have, I wasn't very often successful. Good Luck -- it looks like you're doing a fantastic job!

This is such a lovely stretch of beach, and so much to explore in those rock-pools. I like the crab! Don't fret Lisa, like everything in life it's all about balance. From what I can see your boys revel in their outside pursuits! Thanks to Milo and Gabe for choosing the swap partners too. x

I'm jealous of your thunder storm, we really need something to break the heat here and freshen things up a little.

We have a TV problem, I haven't allowed the boys games yet, although F (5) loves one on hubby's iphone and it's only a matter of time. I'm an outdoor girl and have similar memories of my childhood as you, but as you pointed out, it could all have been different.

Glad the boys enjoyed the beach, looks amazing. Bx

The thinder storm was fab was'nt it. :) We were at Johns aunties birthday party when it happened, and we were all running around like headless chickens trying to get all the food indoors before the Heavens opened, lol. xxxx

What fun! Growing up by the see was so much fun for me. We were always poking around in the rocks and pools. I am so happy that you all had a wonderful time.

Such beautiful photos, the beach looks perfect and the boys so engrossed in everything. This has to be better for them than computer games! I bet they can't wait to go again.

I constantly battle with what kind of lifestyle I want for the kids and what their friends are allowed to do. We've avoided all the electronic games until this xmas where we got a Wii - theory being that at least they can play that together, which they do. And I am really strict about when they get to play it or watch TV. Finn, in particular, is very aware that some of his friends do very different stuff- but they do love being outside and are always easier in the house after some decent outside time.
I spent my time making dens and playing on bikes too. Juliex
Thanks for sorting the swap I'll be in touch with my partner shortly. Very exciting.

Well done you, looks like they had a super time. How far is the beach from you? It would be fantastic to have that close by.

Know exactly what you mean about the screens. I regularly have to declare "no-screen" days here!

Says me sat here in bed with my laptop! :D
